The 7D Mentoring Model
Dheya's 7D Mentoring Model is the canonical framework behind every programme we run. It has seven stages, each with milestone gates.
The Seven Stages
- D1 — Discover — Self-awareness. The mentee maps who they are: RAPD orientation, aptitudes, interests, values.
- D2 — Direction — Path clarity. The mentee narrows from all possible options to a shortlist of viable directions.
- D3 — Dream — Vision setting. The mentee articulates what a successful ten-year life looks like — not just a job title.
- D4 — Desire and Drive — Motivation building. The mentee connects the chosen direction to personal drivers strong enough to sustain effort through setbacks.
- D5 — Design — Planning. The mentee and mentor build a concrete, time-bound roadmap: skills, milestones, entry routes.
- D6 — Develop — Skill execution. The mentee does the work — courses, projects, internships, applications — with mentor accountability.
- D7 — Destination — Outcome achievement. The mentee arrives at the defined milestone: admission, first job, transition, promotion.
Why Structure Beats Ad Hoc Guidance
Most career advice is episodic: one conversation, one decision. The 7D model is phased and cumulative. Each stage has exit criteria, and the mentor does not advance until they are met.
